Present Perfect 5 – First time/second time etc.

We use the present perfect after the construction:

“This is the first time …”

or

“It is the second time … “

etc.

We cannot use the past simple in this situation.

Examples

This is the first time I’ve been to Australia.
It is the third time he’s eaten pizza.
It is the 15th time they have beaten Everton.
